Our Methodology

How We Evaluate External Partners

Legit-Meds links to external pharmacy, telehealth, and healthcare services. Our evaluation of these partners is based on publicly available, verifiable criteria. We assess partners on the following dimensions:

  • Licensing and Accreditation: We verify whether a pharmacy holds valid state pharmacy licenses and whether it has obtained NABP VIPPS accreditation or similar recognized credentials.
  • Regulatory Compliance: We check for compliance with federal and state regulations, including prescription verification requirements, FDA compliance, and controlled substance handling.
  • Consumer Protections: We evaluate whether a partner provides transparent pricing, clear privacy policies, verifiable contact information, and reasonable return and refund policies.
  • Safety Practices: We assess whether a pharmacy employs licensed pharmacists, maintains proper medication storage and shipping practices, and has adequate quality assurance processes.

Independence from Commercial Relationships

Third-party partners are NOT ranked as safe or recommended solely because they pay for clicks, commissions, or any form of advertising.

Our evaluation criteria are applied equally to all partners, regardless of whether they have an affiliate relationship with Legit-Meds. A paid partnership does not result in favorable coverage, higher placement, or a positive evaluation.

Conversely, the absence of a commercial relationship does not result in negative coverage or lower placement. Our editorial decisions are made independently of any commercial considerations.

Content Sourcing Standards

All educational content on Legit-Meds is based on information from publicly available, authoritative sources:

  1. Primary Sources Preferred: We prioritize primary sources such as government agency publications, peer-reviewed research, and official regulatory guidance over secondary reporting or industry publications.
  2. Multiple Source Verification: Key claims are verified through at least two independent sources whenever possible.
  3. Source Documentation: Our editorial team maintains internal documentation of sources used for each piece of content.
  4. Currency: We prioritize recent sources and verify that information reflects current regulations and practices.

Update Schedule

We maintain our content through a regular update schedule:

  • Annual Review: All published content undergoes a comprehensive annual review to verify accuracy and relevance.
  • Regulatory Change Updates: Content is updated promptly when federal or state regulations change in ways that affect the information we provide.
  • Partner Status Changes: When a partner's licensing, accreditation, or regulatory status changes, we update related content as soon as reasonably possible.
  • Reader-Reported Issues: When readers report errors or outdated information, we investigate and correct within a reasonable timeframe.

Each article displays its original publication date and most recent update date for transparency.

Limitations

We acknowledge several limitations in our methodology:

  • Our evaluations are based on publicly available information. We do not conduct physical inspections of pharmacies or their operations.
  • A pharmacy's compliance status can change at any time between our review dates.
  • Our evaluations reflect conditions at the time of review and may not account for recent changes.
  • We cannot verify every claim made by external partners about their services.

We encourage consumers to verify all information independently and consult with healthcare professionals before making medical or pharmacy-related decisions.
